I was catching up with a friend yesterday where there were laughs and good stories as usual. One thing about this particular friend is that they are always quick to share a story about how they messed up, but more importantly how they missed an opportunity to glorify God in a situation. What makes it particularly funny (as someone listening) is knowing this friend’s competitive nature and their passion for following God, and hearing how these two passions went to war. It’s so relatable to admit that too often the former wins in all of our lives. Those things are not enjoyable to go through, but since God is unchanging, we can rest in His victory even when we seem to be losing. It’s such the proper perspective to have. If someone didn’t know better, they would have thought we were discussing some happy and hilarious situation that transpired, when that was far from the case. Thankfully, our hope does not rest in this world and all our failures. Thankfully, we are not dependent on our own merit, but on Christ’s victory. A great one-liner that was featured in the story yesterday was, “That’s loser talk.” While it was not used in the best way in that particular situation, I think my friend would agree there are great ways to use this phrase, especially when it comes to encouraging Christians who are discouraged and have lost perspective on things. ‘Come on, bro. I get that you’re hurting or you’ve messed up, but that’s loser talk. We have victory, sweet victory, in Christ. Let’s keep going!’ Please enjoy this song, Victory, by Sanctus Real…
There’s a soldier who’s been battle scarred asking did he really win
There’s a mother with a broken heart praying for her grief to end
We’re all looking for some miracle we’re all hurting underneath
We are restless we are weary souls longing for just one thing
Chorus
Oh victory oh sweet victory
Sing over me, sing over me
Oh victory bring your victory
Come set me free come set me free
It’s ok for you to fall apart
Oh right now it’s okay for you to weep
Cause He’s close to every broken heart
And He knows your every need
Bridge
By the bitter cross by the empty grave
So with my final breath on my final day I’ll sing…
There’s a future where there’ll be no pain
When all this heaviness will cease
We’ll find purpose in the smallest things
And with all the angels sing…
