The Ultimate Tragedy Of Man
This quote reminds me of a couple verses. First, Psalm 46:1 — ‘God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.’ Although the psalm talks more about external trouble, it’s often the internal battles which cause us the most trouble. Whether these are troubles due to things which have happened to us or brought upon ourselves due to sin, the fact remains God is our refuge and strength. We should go to Him for help no matter what. Second, 1 John 1:9 — ‘If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.’ Since our shame and misery is often due to our own sin and unrighteousness, we are tempted to choose Adam’s method of hiding from God (as if that were possible). God is the only One who can pull us out of the bondage of sin because He alone can forgive and cleanse us of sin! We spend so much time lamenting our own unfaithfulness and unworthiness before God, that we can’t/won’t look to the One who is faithful. This is tragic. God doesn’t want us to drown in our sin and sorrow, but rather come to Him and be restored! May we come to Him always, but especially in the times we are in the greatest depths of need, misery, and shame…
