Piercing The Heart
Heb 4:12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Heb 4:13 And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
—Hebrews 4:12-13
Lately I’ve been trying to go through Bible passages and verses which are fairly familiar to me with the purpose of looking at them with fresh eyes and confirming they say what they do. Why? Because I don’t want to be deceived. Because God’s word is living and active. Because the alternative is that I lean into psychoanalysis rather than having my heart pierced by the Holy Spirit. So often, we don’t come to God (even professing Christians) because we don’t want our thoughts and intentions exposed. Is that you today? Do you prefer your own psychoanalysis to God’s word because it’s more familiar? I pray this is not the case for you and me. If it is, may we quickly repent. If we want to know God deep in our souls, not just in our heads, then this must be our heart’s desire. May we desire to have a constant piercing of the heart!
