Increasingly Sinful In Your Sight
These are some very wise and true words from Mr. Boice. These are a few of the reasons why we refuse to draw close to God. We want things on our terms. We want to define things the way we see fit. If we draw close to God, then we must admit He is the One who really sets the standard. In that case, if we’re honest, we must concede that all of these things are sinful. We must come to terms that our true identity can be summed up in one word — SINNER! BUT, in our sinful nature, we will do anything and everything not to accept this reality. We will play all the word games and do all the mental gymnastics described by Mr. Boice. We will point to OTHERS’ sins (without using that word) to affirm our relative goodness in our minds. That’s just what unrighteous folks do. There are no righteous among us, none who understand, and nobody who seeks God. (Romans 3:10-11)
What a hopeless picture, huh? That’s you and me. That’s one of the ways God’s grace is so amazing. Despite all of these things (and more) being true, God still chooses to draw some of us to Himself. In His mercy and kindness, He still chooses to save some of us from the wrath our sin has earned us. Today I pray that God shows us how we are increasingly sinful in His and our sight…
