One of the reasons I started doing the #FridayFire theme is because there are so many songs that aren’t quite worship songs, but they really hit on something real about life and our walk with God. My hope is that it ‘pumps up’ our faith or brings us some encouragement, as we keep giving the glory to God. This song is the perfect example of that. It touches on the hard parts of life, encourages us to press on, but most importantly to lean into God. The dark times in life are real, but there is joy and hope in the light. If our light is Jesus, then we have a Light who can’t be covered up or put out. As someone who has faced some dark times and difficult situations, but been brought through because of God, I can confidently tell you that besides the Word of God and Jesus Himself, embracing a mindset like the lyrics in this song are indeed the road map to coming out the other side…
Broken hearts
And hard places
We try to put on
Brave faces
We run but we just can't escape it
(Yeah yeah yeah yeah)
Fall apart and
It's not gracious
We run but as much as we hate it
Maybe it's time we embrace it
What if sorrow
Is building hope for tomorrow
Faith is a gift you can't borrow
Keep your eyes on the prize and just follow
Yeah, just follow
Chorus
When the night comes
Hope is still bright
And tears may fall in the evening
But joy comes with the light
So don't you let go
It'll be alright
The tears may fall in evening
But joy comes in the light
I see a light
I see a light
Can't be strong if we
Don't face it
Disappointment's a gift
Don't waste it
Press into God and reshape it
'Cause what if sorrow
Is building hope for tomorrow
Faith is a gift we can't borrow
Persevere through the pain 'till your heart knows
'Till your heart knows
This side of Heaven
All I need is a little light
To keep pushing forward
When I can't see in the dead of night
